Summer 2008 INNOVATIONS
This is the fourth year of the VALLNORD Bike Park and, for this reason, we’re still working hard to improve it. This year, the people in charge of the Bike Park have brought us, yet again, a lot of new things. If you don’t believe it, you can see the proof here:

Minibikepark:
It won’t all be dizzying downhills, impossible jumps, or a movie-style four cross... the smallest riders in the family, the MTB champions of the future, will also have a specific area for themselves this season. We’re going to inaugurate a small circuit with planks and little raised areas so that the little ones can start enjoying mountain biking. It will be our "mini Bike Park”!

Serra II disengageable chair lift
Last year, was the first year of this 4-seater disengageable chair lift that takes you quickly and easily up to the top part of the Bike Park at the Pla de la Cot. This year, this chair lift will be functioning EVERY DAY throughout the month of June, not just at the weekend like last year, and the La Massana cable car and the Serra II chair lift will be working every weekend until the end of the season (20th and 21st, 27th and 28th of September and 4th and 5th, 11th and 12th of October), which is a great advantage for all cyclists. The season will end on 14th September, which means that cyclists can enjoy the Bike Park every day of the season, especially the top part which is the newest part.

Four Cross (4x) VALLNORD BIKE PARK
The Four Cross, situated in the woodland area of the VALLNORD resort and accessible by means of the Serra II disengageable chair lift, is once again one of the great innovations of the 2008 season. We’re saying it is once again because this circuit was inaugurated last year but, because we are in charge of organising a World Cup race for 2008, we had to adapt the slope to the needs of an event of this magnitude. Phil Saxena, constructor of Four Cross throughout the whole world and official constructor of the UCI, has been responsible for transforming the Vallnord Four Cross so you can enjoy it after the World Cup has been held.

Extension of the Wood Park of the VALLNORD BIKE PARK
And as it has become a tradition now for every season, we’ll add some spectacular new wooden modules in the Wood Park; our technicians and constructors are bound to surprise us all with new elements!

New downhill descents:
This is another of the strong points for this season. We’re keeping the fantastic downhills of La Massana, that go from the service centre of the Bike Park up to the arrival point of the La Massana cable car, and it will be improved and some new variants will be added for both the low part of the Bike Park as well as the top part at Pla de la Cot.

We’ve also got the already famous "Cedric Gracia" circuits with a very difficult level (black) that is where the World Cup DHI race will be held this year, as well as other official UCI races. The layout of these circuits has changed considerably; for example, the circuit previously known as the Anne Caroline Chauson circuit has changed its name to "Route 66" since it has become a real downhill motorway with jumps and banked curves in the middle of the wood that goes up to La Massana. You won’t recognise it. We’ve also created the new circuit called "Old school", an entertaining track for those that prefer a narrower route.

The Maxi Avalanche
The route of the "Maxiavalanche" circuit, famous for being the circuit that for the last 7 years has included this well known downhill line race, has also been modified and completely repaired up to La Massana to leave it as good as new.

Green and easy
The green or easy circuit that last year went down from Pla de la Cot to the Serra II chair lift is now called the Skippy Track and has become a blue level. It is the ideal circuit for beginners and children who want to start off easily without any shocks and it goes to the activities and service centre of the Bike Park situated in El Planell.

Other important innovations:
Given that cyclists can’t live on their bikes, last year we thought it was necessary to open a cafeteria in the Pla de la Cot, just at the arrival point of the Serra II chair lift. We thought that an area with these characteristics, at more than 2,000 metres altitude, with music, mountain biking videos, special decoration and a good atmosphere would let cyclists rest, have a drink on a sunny terrace with impressive views, chat about their day and their downhill experiences with friends, have something to eat and regain their strength to be able to carry on. This year there’ll also be special offers on menus and baguettes with your Bike Park pass.
